Choosing your next step in semiconductor design? Get clear answers about our VLSI courses, practical projects, and ways to learn with SkillChip.
SkillChip offers three core VLSI courses: Physical Design, ASIC Design & Verification, and Design for Testability (DFT). They focus on different parts of the chip development process, from implementing a design to checking its behaviour and preparing it for manufacturing test. Compare our VLSI courses to explore the features and practical work in each program.
Start with the type of engineering work that interests you. Physical Design focuses on turning a logical design into a physical chip layout. ASIC Design & Verification focuses on RTL design and checking that a design behaves as intended. DFT focuses on making a chip testable, including scan and automatic test pattern generation (ATPG). If you are unsure, tell our team about your background and interests.
Electronics students and graduates can build their VLSI knowledge through structured learning. A foundation in digital electronics, logic gates, flip-flops, and timing will help you get started. Our Physical Design curriculum includes fundamentals, so prior professional backend experience is not needed to begin. Before enrolling, ask our team about the prerequisites for your chosen course and any topics worth revising.
You will explore the RTL-to-GDSII implementation flow, including synthesis, design constraints, floorplanning, power planning, placement, clock tree synthesis, routing, and static timing analysis (STA). The curriculum also covers timing closure, engineering change orders (ECOs), and physical verification. The aim is to connect each stage with the timing, power, area, and routing decisions an engineer makes. See the Physical Design course curriculum for the full outline.
Yes. The course plans include practical learning with electronic design automation (EDA) tools and course projects. Physical Design lists four projects; ASIC Design & Verification and DFT each list three. The verification course also lists access to open-source EDA tools. Ask for the current tool setup and project scope before joining, so you know exactly what you will practise in your batch.
SkillChip offers live instructor-led learning and self-paced learning options. Live classes give you opportunities to ask questions and discuss concepts with an instructor. Self-paced learning uses recorded lessons and structured modules that you can work through at your own speed. Contact us to confirm the available format, class schedule, and recording access for the specific course you want to take.
Our three core course listings are six-month programs. Physical Design includes 200 training hours, ASIC Design & Verification includes 180 hours, and DFT includes 160 hours. Each combines structured modules with practical projects. Check the course catalog for the current fee and course details, and ask our team about the next batch timetable.
Each of the three core courses includes a certificate upon course completion. To get started, contact the SkillChip team with the course you are interested in and a little about your electronics or VLSI background. We can help you review the syllabus, prerequisites, learning format, and upcoming batch details before you choose your program.
